About José Antonio
José Antonio Rivera Vila
Founder of V1LA
Born and raised between Barcelona and Lima, José Antonio has built a career that connects law, innovation, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
He is a lawyer with over fifteen years of experience in complex litigation, legal advisory services, regulatory compliance, and regulatory risk management. He holds master's degrees in Innovation and Digital Transformation from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and Inesdi Business Techschool (Barcelona), as well as a master's degree in Social Management from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP).
Background
His interest in innovation began long before the rise of generative AI. Growing up between two countries exposed him to different cultures and ways of thinking, while he built a professional path rooted in law and increasingly focused on technological transformation.
Over the years, he expanded his education in social management, strategic planning, innovation, and digital transformation. He also undertook research activities in econometrics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
V1LA
Today he leads V1LA, a Spanish-Peruvian project in its lab phase that explores methodologies to evaluate the capabilities and limitations of AI systems through verifiable evidence, traceability, reproducibility and human oversight. There, he brings his legal experience to risk analysis, methodological controls and the evaluation of observable capabilities.
The name carries his surname, Vila, with a “1” that stands for independent verification.
His work starts from one question: how do we tell what AI promises from what it can actually prove?
